Easy Chocolate Truffles, made simply with sweetened condensed milk, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and espresso powder. Each ingredient helps to highlight the flavors of the rich chocolate, sweet butter, and vanilla. Top with your choice of sprinkles or chopped-up chocolate chunks! These truffles are the dessert you’ll be craving most. They’re delicious, so easy to make, and perfect for Valentine’s Day!
Sometimes the simplest recipes are the ones we crave most. A delicious simple chocolate truffle recipe is a great example. People often search for overly complicated recipes in an effort to look impressive or just to make something extra delicious for a loved one. But many times, it’s the simple, no-fuss recipes that can taste the yummiest!
When it comes to straight chocolate, truffles are the yummiest! Many don’t realize that even though truffles feel fancy, they’re one of the simplest, most no-fuss desserts you can make.
I’m very, very excited to bring you this recipe. Especially with Valentine’s Day being tomorrow!
The funny thing about these truffles is that they’re a variation of Brigadeiros (Brazilian Chocolate Truffles) that I shared back in 2014.
I’ve been making this new variation for the last few years. The addition of espresso helps to balance the richness and sweetness while also helping to heighten the chocolate. It’s a small addition that I think makes a huge difference.
Step 1: mix the ingredients
Start this recipe by mixing a can of sweetened condensed milk with chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and espresso powder.
Hopefully, these are all ingredients you have in your kitchen today!
Step 2: melt the chocolate
Take a medium size pot and set it over medium heat. Cook until the chocolate is melted and the mixture begins to pull away from the sides of the pot.
This will take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Make sure you’re consistently stirring to ensure the chocolate does not burn.
Step 3: chill it out
Pull the pot off the stove and mix in the butter and vanilla. Then chill the truffle mix until firm.
You need about an hour or two.
Step 4: roll the truffles
Once your truffle batter is chilled, roll into bite-size balls. From here, roll each ball in either sprinkles or chopped-up chocolate.
Do what you prefer, or maybe do a mix as I did!
Step 5: chill again and serve
I find it best to chill the balls again, then serve. They’ll be less messy this way!

My parents and I made these for Valentine’s Day, rolled them in nuts, and they were absolutely delicious! I will be re-making them soon for my co-workers! Yum!
Thanks so much Jenny! I am so glad you and your parents enjoyed this recipe:) Love the idea of rolling them into nuts! Xx
Can you taste the espresso powder? I am not a fan but not sure if it could be left out? Would love to try these!!
Sorry, just saw it’s optional! Having issues loading the recipe!
Hi Jen,
The espresso powder is optional, but it really just enhances the chocolate flavor:) Let me know if you give this recipe a try! xT
My coworkers loved this for a Valentine’s Day treat! Melted the chocolate last night and chilled overnight, then formed/decorated this morning. Thanks for another fab recipe! 🙂
Hi Jocelyn,
Fantastic! I appreciate you making this recipe and your comment! So glad it turned out well for you:)
These are delicious!!! I used coconut sweetened condensed milk because I’m dairy free and they turned out really yummy! My husband loved them too! Thank you for your delicious recipies!
Hi Amanda,
Thanks for trying this recipe and your feedback! So glad to hear you enjoyed the truffles! xT
These sound yummy. I would choose to not use sweetened condensed milk as it has too many calories and is way too sweet for me. Do you have a suggestion for something else I could use in place of it?
Thanks so much!! Unfortunately, you need to use the sweetened condensed milk:) xx
Your metric conversions aren’t working. It still showing tablespoons instead of grams. These sound tasty though. I might try them if I can convert the measurements.
Hi there,
Thanks for pointing this out, we will get them fixed ASAP:) I hope you enjoy this recipe! xT
